Intolerance and bigotry knows no boundaries. But the cause of leading the way out of intolerance is not furthered by being so bloody earnest around each other. The way out is when our differences can be celebrated, in humor and in other ways.

Taking things too seriously can be terribly patronizing, because it assumes the that insulted (whoever that might be) cannot laugh. That's a terrible insult, and likely worse than that implied by the joke, even when the joke is treated seriously.
