Note that the original poster was asking about a lacquered tuba. Tarnishield and other brass polishes and protectants are designed for unlacquered brass or silverplate. Lacquer on brass should be treated just like a hard furniture finish--cleaned and then, if you want, waxed.

Windex is an excellent cleaner. But, like all soaps and detergents, it will leave a residue if not wiped off. If you wipe off the detergent, the drying agent in Windex will take the rest away. As a cleaner, it leaves less residue than another other water-based detergents. Only petroleum-based solvents (degreasers) leave less, but then they aren't particularly good for the lacquer. They do work well for cleaning off old slide grease, however.
