Just a quick addendum...
You will do considerably less "soldiering" in the DC bands than you will in the field. You will still be expected to observe military customs and courtesies and you will be expected to conform to the military's weight and fitness requirements. However, you won't find yourself qualifying on your M-16 every 6 months. In fact, if you ever have your hands on a loaded M-16 once you are in a premiere band, count to ten, put the weapon down, and go practice some long tones.
