Many years ago I swore I would never play a tuba with a flat in it's name. I then switched to BBb because I loved the thick sound. Last year I walked into a music store and was asked to test a YBB-641 that had come in. One hour and a quick check of finances later, I walked out of the store with this instrument. It has to be one of the best tuba's, BBb or CC nonewithstanding, I have ever had the pleasure to play. The pitch is solid, valves are great, and the thing has a glorious sound. I use it as my main horn. Everyone I have played with loves it. I have long been leary of Yamahas, but no longer. I will wave the flag of this instrument forever. I know that some 641's are bad instruments. I recently played a new BAT Meinl an aquaintance bought THAT WAS POSSIBLY THE WORST TUBA I HAVE EVER PLAYED. For $9,000 I would have expected more. Hope that puts it in perspective.
