I use one of those Radio Shack 4 track consoles with a couple of their PZM microphones and recording onto a standard cassette tape. Obviously, the cassette is the weakest link in this chain but I record myself so rarely, or need to, that I haven't bothered with DAT or minidisk technology as yet. What I like about the microphone/console setup from Radio Shack is the "trueness" of the sound. When I listen to playback, it sounds to me just like what I heard. It even does a reasonable job of recording my sound, at least as close as I've heard from any setup that doesn't cost more than my house. If you're looking for a true reproduction in your recordings rather than something that has a more "mixed" sound, I would recommend the Radio Shack setup. Good luck!
