You say that you can play Berlioz on an Eb as well. Yes of course, I've even seen it be played on a BBb(!), but the question is if it works as well. In my opinion (and others in my circle as well) finds that in a lot of Berlioz, one needs the smaller sound offered by an F. The Eb just doesn't blend well enough with the rest of the brass up high and tends to stick out. Generally it sounds better with a united brass sound, compared to a brass sound with a tuba sticking out of it in a funny way.
Just my opinion.
And I play the Eb and don't have access to an F (unfortunately)
