My wife doesn't normally mind if I practice, but she HATES it when I play long tones. 'Stop making noise' she says. If it doesn't have some kind of melodic line or at least the flow of a scale, it is noise to her. (She never played a brass instrument.) I figured if I worked up a long tone exercise that included a lot of 33hz tones, she may unknowingly enjoy it or at least tolerate it better. It shouldn't be too hard since I play CC tuba, just play a pedal CC every second, third, or fourth long tone. May even help open up my low range or help relax my chops when alternating with high long tones.

BTW, I have found 1234 on a BBb tuba to produce about a low DDb, not a CC, unless REALLY lipped down. 234 seems to produce a near in tune DD on most BBb horns, but the laws of physics dictate that you would need a valve a lot longer than a regular first valve to lower it to the CC.

Thanks for the info, Chris!
