My only experience is with the VMI 3301 vs. the 3302. I like the way that the 3301s that I have tried play, but I haven't liked any of the 3302s that I have tried. This could be due to sample variations, but it could also be due to the 5th valve on the 3302. I have had similar experience with Conn 20Js vs. 24Js. I have prefered the way most 3 valved 2Xjs played vs. their 4 valve counterparts.
A dependent 5th should eliminate this problem, although it does limit the utility of the 5th valve. It maight take some getting used to, but might improve the response of the horn.
