I've just finished up my latest CC conversion of a King 2341 with a Holton Eb bell. It's a commission for Bill Rowe in Kokomo. I am once again struck by the fact that 4 valve horns seem to play and respond a lot differently(I believe better)than 5-valve versions of the same horn. This makes me think that the idea of a 5th dependent rotor in the 4th valve loop makes a lot of sense especially with piston valves. The next five valve horn I make will have the 5th dependent. That is the way my Yamaha Eb is set up but with only a 1/4-step 5th. Any thoughts, observations or experiences from the community on this topic?
