My holton has a dependent 5th and works very well. It is a harder sell than an independent 5th would be, so that is something you need to consider. It looks a little odd (mine does) but is a very free blowing set-up. I would imagine it would work well on smaller horns and would add it to my 2-J if and when I ever get around to having it rebuilt. Sure would like to see your finished product!
