Roger Lewis's take on the procedure for tuning the horn to itself went something like this-tune each valve combination in one partial, doing it with all of the valve combinations, and then doing it with all of the partials that you can play. Then find a compromise between all of the partials. The only tuning problems on the 187GB come from C and D below the staff. The C is insanely sharp with the slide pushed all of the way in, but this can be fixed by pulling the slide. The D is unusably out of tune using the 1-2 combo, and the only way to fix it is to use the third valve. Tuning the horn to itself was offered as a partial solution.
