You are never too far along to learn something new. The main thing here is to concentrate on what the tongue is doing, sorry to disagree with another poster, until it becomes a habit. Slow scale studies with the use of the tongue in the correct placement behind the upper front teeth will yield great results. The use of the Arban book for trombone or tuba will provide you with exercises that require the use of the tongue. Don't start out up to tempo, but use your metronome at a very slow setting, play everything while concentrating on what the tongue is doing and where it is.

Since you have become aware of the problem, take it to your teacher now and let him/her help you. While this is a great forum for discussion, your teacher is the one who should guide you through this.
