The first valve slide is cut down the same way the 6/4 Nirschl is cut so you have the versitility to push in beyond the usual length. This is great for some lower notes when the 5th and first valves are used. Creates more options.

I played this horn and found that the horn plays a tad sharp all the way around. The tuning slide needs to be yanked much more than its 6/4 brother, or sister if you will. I used a tuner and found the horn had great intonation, centered wonderfully, and blows freely like the 6/4, just a more compact sound. I do believe this horn is the best piston 4/4 out there.
