It is the first tuba concerto. It is also a standard of the repitoire. The Strauss is not an original tuba piece. They want to hear you play tuba music. They're looking for a tuba player. Now don't get me wrong. A good musician learns to play other music as well, but they wish to find the best "tuba" player out there.
