Actually, when I'm speaking at great length (which I tend to do far too often) about the positive aspects of Eb versus F, I'm actually working the other side of the equation that you mention. I'm not at all insecure about using an Eb rather than an F in my gig. But I perceive a slight prejudice against Eb tubas among many players, particularly younger ones. I try not so much to justify, but to put the Eb out there as a viable option. As I've said many times, as have many others on this BBS, explore ALL options to find what works best for you. Many aspiring tuba students, in my experience, stereotype the Eb tuba as something less prestigious as an F and some won't even consider it as an option. I'm simply trying to point that out as an uninformed and perhaps inadvisable choice. But in an industry as hard to get into as music, you bet that perceptions matter to some degree and should be at least considered by the player in making decisions.

My opinion for what its worth...
