I really have enjoyed Mr. Jacobs' legacy of orchestral recordings, and some of the solo and small ensemble recordings, which I have heard before that are on this c.d., I know to be quite nice.

However, I judge the Vaughan Williams performance (which I believe was on DGG when released as an l.p.) to be a poor performance by someone who wasn't quite in his game at the time.

Is it sacrilege for me to express this opinion? Am I the only one who found this performance to be lacking? (B.T.W., NO one needs to make any excuses for this performance. I am completely aware of Mr. Jacobs health problems, age, etc., at the time of the performance, and KNOW that he could have done MUCH better decades earlier. I simply question the wisdom of releasing it in the first place. Perhaps the c.d. committee felt the same way that I do.)

Boy, am I setting myself up for potshots!!...
