Electronics will NEVER replace the musician. It is impossible for a machine to generate the ratty tones of even a car horn, much less the complex harmonics produced from a wind instrument. Crowds will always enjoy listening to a REAL band but it might be difficult to draw crowds JUST to listen to the band. I attempt to play at functions where there is already a crowd gathered to other purposes like street markets, hydroplane races, 4th of July celebrations, Christmas functions, etc. I don't think the day will ever return where you can put up a few posters and place an ad in the paper and expect to draw a large crowd. There's simply too much other stuff for folks to do. Time was that a concert in the park was a major deal. Our band does well to draw 100 people these days. On the other hand, if we take a small group of German players to a festival, we may have 500 people just listening as they pass by.
