Multiple bells is an interesting idea - thicker or thinner, bigger or smaller flares, yellow or gold brass, wreath or none, etc. Really opens up the pallete. A common option for French horns is screw bells - the entire bell is threaded, unlike a sousaphone or bell front tuba. (I believe this is done more for portablilty in the case of the French horn.) Why not make that an option for tubas? Thread the bell into a nickel silver ring on the bottom bow, and use a detachable brace to the top bow similar to what Edwards puts on their trombones. Any thoughts out there? Would there just be too much of a chance of cross threading soft brass with something as cumbersome as a tuba bell? Perhaps a wooden jig or guide to insure exact lineup before threading?
