With all derivated limitations in the freedom of creativity, I would suggest makers to settle for 2-3-4 standard diameters with a common threading. Be it derivated from the US metering system or from the meter standard of Europe.
That really would open perspectives. And a standardisation would bring down costs at any production and distribution level.
