I think it's great when my son "plays around" with the tuba during the summer (he belongs to an ensemble group and does a few other music programs). Since he's going to major in computer engineering in the fall he can stay on the computer as well. As long as he's not in the back yard sniffing glue I'm happy.
Maybe your folks just need a bit more time to reconcile themselves to having a tuba playing daughter. I'm sure they'll come around. After all, they let you get that nice new tuba didn't they? :)
