I had my jaw broken in an automobile accident and there was some resultant nerve damage on the left side of my face/lip. At the time I wasn't a serious (or any other kind) of player; didn't even have my own horn. In the 7 1/2 years since I have become what I call a "serious recreational" player. I'm sure I won't ever reach the level of some people on this list, but 20 years off the horn is the likely cause of that, not the nerve damage.

I still have an area on the left side of my lower lip down around my chin that is numb, I mean Novacaine numb. With the help of Dr. Mark Cox at CMU I have adjusted my embouchure and concentrated on the result, not the input and now I can produce a very agreeable sound. It's the sound I want and it makes me glad to know that I've been able to produce that in spite of whatever may have happened externally.

Good luck and good playing.
