I bought a MW 182 last year and absolutely love it as a solo horn. It sings in the high registers and has a very good low range. For me, it is the perfect solo horn. I personally don't use it in quintet because I prefer the sound of my 4/4 CC tuba. This horn is very comparable to the Yamaha YFB 621. Some people find the Yamaha is easier to play and to play in tune. On my 182 I play the G on the bottom of the staff 1&3 and the G at the top of the staff 4th (instead of open). Other than that I have no problems playing in pitch. I chose the 182 over a Yamaha 621 because I felt it had a warmer sound with a unique character. Either horn would be well suited to the duties that you described.
