Regarding your observations about brass teaching methods: I am some kind of a weirdo, I guess. I am very much BOTH of the types of teacher that you mention. I guess that I adapt what I have to say based on what I get back from the student regarding what they seem to "get" and what I perceive as being "effective."

I tend to teach differently for each student. My goal has been to have each student leave my house armed with the same concepts and the solutions needed to achieve them, but couched in terms that "click" with that particular individual.

I am dry and process-oriented for some, while highly effusive and product-oriented for others. And (gasp!) I am BOTH to many when I deem it appropriate. I always attempt the approach the artistic end first, getting more specific about lungs and muscles and articulation as each becomes needed. As I said, I am a weirdo, I guess.
