Those players who play the same pitch regardless of where the slides are are not getting the same tone quality on a C with the tuning slide all the way in, and the same C with the tuning slide 2 1/2 inches out. But back to my original point. It's ridiculous to be tuning a CC tuba, think you're slightly out of tune, and move the tuning slide 1/16 of an inch. That amount of movement is way within the variable +/- of the embouchure.
