Ever try finding a tuba sub for Easter morning service the Saturday night before? Forget it can't be done. I got the stomach flu with fever and the runs (trying to be euphemistic) so I went in and played two services. Left the sanctuary during the minister's sermons to use the men's room. Ending up making it without too much trouble.
Also many years ago, my very first drum corps competition , I must have eaten something bad for dinner prior to the show. It was funny for about 10 minutes before the show to about 10 minutes after the show it didn't bother me at all. I guess at times you can put mind over matter.
