Shorter tuning slide etc. of 981 tubas?

After the descendents of the 981 Besson tuba had their leadpipes placed higher and lengthened, the tuning slides and assemblies were shortened, as I just read in a posting by Klaus on July 01, 2001.
1. Is this difference enough for me to change my standing order for a 982 tuning slide, which I was going to have the male end custom shortened so as to raise the pitch slightly?
2. Will the new Sovereign 981 tuning slide fit a 1976 B & H Imperial EEb, 4-valve?
3. How would I tell my local repairman to mount the 981 leadpipe off the bell of the older Imperial somewhat? I guess the original Imperial stay flange could be used.

Thanks,
Bill
