Thanks to all of the spirited replies from all of you, they make most interesting reading.

Obviously the thread turned a little into:
'Nobodies job is perfect; it's what you make of the situation that counts'.

That's fine and overall far more important than the ins-and-outs of a military musician's life :)

However...
1). What is the average day like? Morning rehearsals then free until possible gig??
2). How's the basic training? Do you get a lot of hassle from the regular Military dudes?
3). Fellow musicians keen to do 5tet/large brass stuff?? (Depends what you make of it and which crowd you hang-out with I guess!)
4). Does the Military system attempt to further all of its musicians through courses/masterclasses in performance & conducting etc etc??
