You need to realize that other than the premier or special bands you are more a "regular military dude" than not.

Fort Lewis Typical Schedule 1996-99 Mon-Fri (no gig, field training (aka play soldier. . .)

6:30 AM Physical Training
9 Concert Band
11-12 Lunch
1-4:30 Practice time, small ensemble rehearsal, office work. . .

Most summers we did 2-3 marching gigs (ceremonies) a day and frequently worked every day (I think 29 days was the record).--we did receive comp. days.

The premier bands have a much less rigorous and structured schedule and don't "play soldier."

Go visit a military installation.
