In a post further down the thread I said i was confused as to what year we were in.

For starters, I discagree with Heather that in this day and age that females are not encouraged to play brass instruments.

I am in my 40s and have been playing brass for most of my life. Early in my career it was certainly a male dominated domain, but today tells a totally different story.

I play in a number of bands and I can see without doubt the banding movement is now an equally mixed number of male and female. Now that i have said that, why the hell are we talking male and female in 2003.

In one band i play in, if there were no females we wouldnt have a band!

We are Musicians, there is is no difference. When it comes to a concert stage or the contest arena the music is from musicians not male or female.

I still believe that to have a women's brass conference or contest is sexist and the concept should be seriously looked at.
