SYMPHONY AUDITIONS: PREPARATION AND EXECUTION

The above article by Douglas Yeo should be of help. The section marked "6. GETTING INVITED - PART 1" deals with resumes.

Leave off all the stuff about High School All-whatever Band/Contest. This will only highlight inexperience. Be honest. If you have no real experience, then the resume should reflect it. Basically, anything that is not at the national or international level should probably be left out of the experience or honors section.

To be honest, unless you already have a gig in a reputable orchestra or are performing internationally as a soloist, Oregon is going to send you a Xerox'ed copy of a form letter stating that "your resume is not strong" and they will then advise you to not show up, but allow you to anyway if you still feel you wish to audition. You will also get a packet containing hotel and travel info along with some of the more difficult excerpts to find.

You could probably just call their personnel manager and request the packet be sent without the preliminary resume. Oh, and spend the next 2 months living in the tuba basement.

good luck
sean
