It's a fairly rounded rim - VERY different from the Schilke Helleberg II - for example. It's more like the contour of the Bach 24AW - only not as "fat".

It's very comfortable but a word of caution: When this piece was first introduced, some players had difficulty with endurance. I was confused, at first, (actually, I'm ALWAYS confused, just ask my students) until I realized that those people were pushing harder on the rim trying to find the inner edge. Some of them learned to back off, some got the rim re-surfaced and some bought another mouthpiece.

This IS no universal mouthpiece that works well for everyone - so, like tubas, try as many as you can and pick what YOU sound best on. I made this mouthpiece for ME and if other people like it, GREAT - glad to help.
