I am not a retailer or dealer, but I try (like many of us)to keep track of the prices of many tubas year after year.
I've seen horns posted with an initial price that is higher than a new model at a place like the Brasswind. Then the person will come back and lower the price.Tuba prices have held pretty steady for the past five years, and in many cases have gone down a considerable amount for some makes and models.
Look at Jeff Funderburk's post,he compares the price of his horn to a new one at the Brasswind.Would he have done that ten years ago?
It was also interesting to note how many guys bought Meinl Weston 2145's for $7k,and then the Brasswind started selling them for $5k.It seemed to drive down the price of a used 2145.Since the Brasswind is now selling Kalisons for $5k instead of for $6k,we should observe the price at which used Kalison will sell.Almost new Kalisons probably won't sell for $5000 anymore.
