I tried the Silent Brass for Tuba at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in February. I experienced some of the same problems as Tom on my first trial. InI also compalained to the rep. and he explained that the headphones that they use on a convention floor draw quite a bit of power. The 'phones that are supplied with the system are much smaller and use less power. I was wondering if the guy was feeding me a line so I came back with a small set of Walkman type headphones that I brought with me and sure enough, there was considerably more sound. Bear in mind also that the horn that they were using for the demo was a tiny little student line instrument. One of my students brought his 188 on to the floor and gave it a try. He said that it worked fine with a bigger horn even with the large 'phones. So with a larger horn and small headphones it should work quite well.
