I think Jay is absolutely correct here that in good condition, 4valve Kings can be excellent tubas. As of a couple of years ago, upright bells for the 2340(3valve)/2341(4valve) model (which is likely what you have unless the horns are more than 40 years old) were available for around $600 through Dillon Music in Woodbridge New Jersey (the list price in the Tuba Source Book (1996) is $1040 in lacquer, $1440 in silver plate). I have never investigated the cost of putting a 4th valve on a 3 valve 2340, but you might want to check with Dillon (who has perhaps the best repairmen/women and shop around) on the cost of an overhaul including adding 4th valves on one or more of the horns.
