Buffing off the fingerprints

I have done an experiment which I think worked and would like see if anyone else has tried this.

I wear plastic lens glasses and got a small square of "microfiber" cloth from the optometrist, with which to clean the lenses. Works great.

So it occurred to me that the surface of a plastic lens and the surface of a lacquered tuba might not be too different. I went to a fabric store and bought a 2 yard remnant of "microfiber suiting" (kelly green, if you must know)($3.00). I have been using this to wipe down my Mirafone 183 for several weeks, now, and I think it does a great job of taking off the fingerprints and water spots.

Has anyone else tried this? Am I the last to know, or what? Am I stripping the lacquer off my horn?

Comments?
