The brasswind sells what they call a "micro-fiber" pollishing cloth, which I use regularly. I play a Getzen G-50 which is silver-plated and I have not noticed any negative results. Using a rag that soft makes me feel better, besides the fact that it does the job quite well. I don't know how it works on lacquer, but it seems to be good for silver.
