What Sean said. In the past two years I have seen a total of two for sale (used)
by pros who were either a) selling a spare, or b) selling a spare (can you believe
having a gig where you might need TWO?) One was on the West Coast, another was
back east. f.w.i.w. I was glad I wound up with Stratos'es old Whole-Tone (c.1972)
for the same price.

ps...those prices of even two years ago are in no way relevant today,
and (frankly) the stories about travelling to europe for a horn
are more the stuff of urban legend than common achievements.

Like Rick and Sean said, pony up 17 K to Fred at Custom, wait 6 months to a year,
and you basically get whatever horn shows up. For my money I'd rather go play-test
the HALF-DOZEN 188's Charlie Krause is reported to have in Texas right now, great horns for not much more than 1/3 the price.

as if this helps....
