For those of you who live in the DC-Northern Virginia area and want confirmation that I am indeed a second-rate amateur, consider joining the Loudoun Concert Band in their upcoming performance on March 31. (7:30 PM Potomac Falls High School on Algonkian Parkway in Sterling, Virginia).

The program will include a challenging program, including:

Nilesdance, Holsinger
American Folk Rhapsody No. 3, Grundman
Eternal Father, Strong to Save, the long Claude Smith setting
Barnum and Bailey's Favorite, King
First Suite for Band, Reed
Esprit de Corps
An American in Paris, Gershwin (arranged by... sigh.)

I have the solo licks in the last tune, so my general incompetence will be laid bare.

This concert is a stretch for this band (and for me), which is what makes playing in community bands fun. But it requires a bit of audience mercy.

If you come, say hello after the concert. If you say hello before the concert, then I will know that real tuba players are in the audience, and I will freak out.
