Good afternoon gentlemen. It's been a little tense and dull around here lately so lets try and have some fun this weekend. Relax, and enjoy being tuba players again. Here's the deal: When I first started playing tuba back in the 60's I bought just about every LP that I thought had a tuba player on it. I often dreamed of playing these very record dates and arrangements some day. I know there's other cats out there that did the same thing. So, lets hear about it. Some of your favorite LP's or CD's that you always wanted to be on. Don't be bashful! Nothing to be ashamed of! Everybody's gotta have a tuba fantasy. Here it goes for me!
Maynard Ferguson, Screamin' Blues (Don Butterfield)(check out Night Train!)
George Shearing, Burnished Brass (anybody know who the tuba player is?)
Billy May's Big Fat Brass (Red Callender, Clarence Karella) or just about anything
that Billy May arranged or composed.
Jimmy Smith The Cat (Don Butterfield) arranged by Lalo Schifrin
Manny Albam Brass on Fire (this is tricky because there's no tuba on this but I
always thought there should have been. I never forgave Manny for not writing in Don
Butterfield. Check out Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe. really beautiful!)
Franz Waxman Prince Valiant Suite (More Strauss than Strauss himself!)
And finally, just about anything that Bernard Herrmann did but especially The
Fantasy Film World of Bernard Herrmann.
Come on boys! Don't leave me out here to dry. Share a little. Let's make this fun again!
