We're playing the Cheetham Brass Menagerie, 1st movement only, as part of a recital we're doing tonight. Our quintet likes to play single movements from pieces when it seems like the whole piece will be too much. I like the technique because, as you said, it gives the audience a little breathing room. Of course, some pieces don't need that. We're also doing the complete Ewald 1 tonight but we never found that this work needed to be broken up to make it effective.
