The last bastion of tradition. Homogonized orchestral sound is boring. If you want to hear the Chicago Symphony all the time, listen to them all the time, don't wish there crass playing on all the orchestras of the world. AND, to say that the VPO's winds aren't up to task haven't listened to enough VPO Brahms or Beethoven. The woodwinds are the bets in the world, Why?, because they don't sound like American "Band";i.e., loud and crass like American brass, players.
