If the metal is reasonably thick and not rotten, a talented repair guy can silver-braze the cracks closed.

If a bit of trouble is encountered, there's some solder called "low temperature" solder for crack filling. It seems to behave more like lead-tin solder, except it doesn't flow as well as lead-tin. Sometimes the "crack filling" stuff reminds me very much of modern-day plumber's solder. This stuff isn't as sturdy as silver-brazing, but more sturdy than simply filling the cracks with regular lead-tin "soft" solder.

If silver-brazing is possible, it's the most desirable because if it's done successfully and expertly, it's almost invisible and very strong.
