This is for anyone who has ever been asked to "move that horn" while playing sousaphone at a sporting event. While playing at an NCAA tourney game this weekend a fan asked if my section could move becasue she had paid $35 for her ticket and wanted to see. I explained that I did what I was told and sat there at the command of our director. After several minutes of this, an arena worker found the women another seat, away from the band. Soon afterward I was passed this note;
"Dear Musician (Tuba player), Don't be dicouraged by some of us overzealous fans. Most of us are very proud of you for your talent and participation in your band. Keep up the good work and forgive the less tolerent. You're a good person. Sincerly, a fan"
After many years of grief at sporting events, I have finally found someone that understands the plight of a musician that happens to carry a view obstructing instrument.
