PRO - I think that some advantages in a service band are you have a steady job, benefits, CommisaryBX perks. On the music side, you are paid to play, you are issued a quality horn to do your job. You are offered the opportunity to take lessons and attend conferences on the government dime. You can do chamber music and or solo recitals and not have to pay for any publicly/programs.
You don't have to worry about going on strike or the group folding up

CON - Sometimes you don't have to like it, you just have to do it. Yea, there are times that you have to do stuff other than playing music, but you would always go back to making music. Just like any job there are things about it that you just don't like.


There are 2 more tuba players that have been in a military band - Ron Bishop and Dave Baguanier( National Symphony tubist)

Don't forget Pat Sheridan, he was in the Marine Band
