It is possible to circular breathe without the loud sniffing noise. I know, because I have mastered it. The key is to increase the strength of your cheek muscles. You can do this just by puffing them out very hard and putting your palms on them (one cheek at a time) and eventually you will be able to push harder against your hand -- this is the same as strengthening any of your other muscles through resistance training. Once you have a great deal of strength in your cheeks, you don't have to take in the air through your nose so quickly. It's the speed that the air comes in that makes the noise. With stronger cheeks, you can actually have more control over how slowly the air will be coming out of your mouth, so you can slow down the air that comes in through your nose. It is possible to co-ordinate the speed of the air coming out of your mouth and into your nose, and by doing this you can eliminate the loud sniffing sound from your nose.
