Some people who visit this BBS might remember the bass trombone/low brass instructor at The University of Arkansas at one time, Gerald Sloan. He did research into the best setup for doublers, according to the instrument and mouthpiece used as the primary setup.

As an example, and not a quote from the text that I saw about 11 or 12 years ago, He had a suggestion for a Bach 50 B3 with a Schilke 59 mouthpiece, a Yamaha 613 and Bach 1 1/2 G, and so forth.

I am not sure that it was a part of a larger published work, or something he put together, but it was good reading, and did seem to focus on less transition from horn to horn, and use of the second instrument.
