Many "experts" claim that mouthpieces can make a lot of difference regarding intonation, but I have never found that to be the case. For example, I have a small BBb tuba that is seriously flat on the C above the staff when I use a big, deep, cup-shaped mouthpiece. So I tried another mouthpiece that is so shallow it sounds like s**t, and found exactly the same intonation problem. I went back to the mouthpiece that sounds good and found an alternate fingering to solve the intonation problem. (4th valve in this case)
