My cimbasso is in Eb. A very natural choice considering that all my bass tubas are in Eb as well. I don't play F tuba at all. I would say the typical opera repertoire lends itself very well to Eb. I have no complaints after 18 years in the pit. As far as range, my cimbasso has 5 valves. The low range, clear into the deep pedal range, is no issue at all. As with any instrument, try some models our for yourself and see what strikes you.
