The GRAND Brass Festival at Grand Valley State University is a stimulating and exciting opportunity for a limited number of high school, college, young professional, and amateur adult brass players to study and perform brass solos and chamcer music. This new program will feature the acclaimed Eastman Brass Quintet and the Avatar Brass Quintet, quintet-in-residence at Grand Valley State University. The Festival will be held June 11-16, 2001, on the campus of Grand Valley State Universirty in Allendale, Michigan. The campus is set in the west Michigan countryside near lake Michigan. Events will be held at the university's renovated and state-of-the-art facilities housed in the Performing Arts Center.
The festival includes master classes, clinics, private lessons, exhibits, and numberous performance opportunities to include both large and small ensembles. Performances will be presented featuring the Eastman Brass Quintet, Avatar Brass Quintet, faculty soloists, and a large brass ensemble with members of both quintets.
Festival highlights include daily master classes with members of both the EBA and ABQ, solo recitals, daily coachings with members of the EBQ and ABQ, workshops on auditioning for colleges and professional positions, and mock orchestra auditions.GRAND BRASS FESTIVAL at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan

WHEN: June 11 through June 16

WHERE: Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Michigan (just west of Grand Rapids)

WHO: Faculty comprised of Eastman Brass and Avatar Brass. Eastman Brass is James Thompson and Douglass Prosser, trumpets; Peter Kurau, French horn; John "Doc" Marcellus, trombone; and Don Harry, tuba. Avatar Brass is Richard Stoelzel and Stan Friedman, trumpets; Paul Austin, French horn; Tom Riccobono, trombone; and Matthew Brown, tuba.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Open to high school, college, young professional, and amateur adult brass players.

WHAT: Students will participate in daily brass quintet and brass ensemble coachings, as well as faculty master classes, lectures, and performances. Pre-formed brass quintets are welcome. Recitals by both Eastman Brass and Avatar Brass, as well as a combined ABQ/EBQ recital and faculty solo recital.

HOW MUCH: $500.00 tuition, which INCLUDES room and board.
