Matt, this has been discussed several times on this board, the most recent in February (see link below). It's almost like the discussion about BBb vs. CC tubas--lots of high feelings and little concrete data.

One of the problems is that the freezing services (BB included) "prep" the instrument by doing a careful valve alignment and other operations. So the question boils down to "did the freezing do it or did the prep?".

One of the trumpet groups proposed to do some sort of blind test, but the number of test horns was pretty limited and the study not carried out with true double-blind methodology.

So, as far as I know, the jury's out. Until there is some solid data, you're probably best off saving your hard-earned bucks.
